Peacefully at Ashburton Hospital on August 27, 2026. Aged 87 years. A dearly loved husband, father, father-in-law, grandad, and great-grandad. Thanks to Hospice Mid Canterbury and St John for their care and support and special acknowledgement to Dr Malcolm Wootton and the Home Support team who supported Dennis and allowed him to stay at home for as long as possible. Thanks also to other hospital based staff involved in Dennis’ care over the last weeks. WAITERE, Carol Lystra (nēe Rose)

After a hard-fought battle, Gran passed away peacefully on Wednesday, 19 August 2026.  She faced it with strength and courage, and after precious time with her loved ones, she was ready to rest.  Through it all, her laughter and stories brought light to her journey.  Born on 28 December 1944, Carol lived a life filled with great yarns, laughter and treasured memories.  Carol was the youngest daughter of the late Iris and Sandy Rose, and a much-loved mother and mother-in-law to Adrian, Matrena and Wayne, and the late Kararaina.  Dear sister of Doreen and Brian, and the late Ian, Anne and Donald.  A much-loved Aunty to her many nieces and nephews.  Carol’s family would like to acknowledge her nephew Allan, with heartfelt gratitude for his continual love, care and support.  A cherished Gran to Amy-Lee, Krystal, Ashley, Brittany, Clayton, Kered, Kreed and Bella, and a proud Great-Gran to her great-grandchildren.  In Gran’s words “ke te pai!”  Messages to the Waitere family, P O Box 472, Ashburton 7740.  A private cremation has been held.
